OVERVIEW

This conference is designed to present current clinical management issues in surgical patients for the general surgeon in practice. This year’s program focuses on recent advances and recommendations for particularly problematic clinical issues. By the completion of the course, participants should be able to describe the current management, based on known published evidence, of a variety of general surgical diseases; to understand areas of controversy in the management of a variety of general surgical problems and be able to describe the evidence supporting different points of view. Registration is limited to allow personal contact with the faculty in order that each participant will be able to tap the resources available for his/her own clinical scenarios.

Optional Workshop - Advanced Laparoscopic Suturing
This two hour workshop will take place Thursday afternoon. The objectives of this workshop are for participants to learn intracorporal knot tying and intracorporal suturing. There will be a maximum of 4 participants per session.

Optional Workshop - Breast Ultrasound
At the completion of this workshop participants should be able to understand the role for and the limitations of ultrasonography in the management of breast disease; and to be able to find, identify and distinguish common breast lesions such as cysts and solid tumors using the ultrasound probe.

UVM will be concurrently hosting a conference on Emergency Medicine. This Surgery conference and the Emergency Medicine conference will have a joint session on Thursday afternoon.
